Chargers' 10-Game Winning Streak Snapped at Kishwaukee

Kishwaukee handed the Carl Sandburg College baseball team its first Arrowhead Conference losses of the season, sweeping the Chargers 5-3 and 6-5 on Tuesday afternoon.

Sandburg (17-8, 10-2) saw its 10-game winning streak snapped and is now a game behind Black Hawk (9-1) in the league standings.

Key Moment
Sandburg struck for a run in the first without the benefit of a hit, but Kougars answered with four runs in the bottom half thanks to two infield hits, a pair of walks and an error.

Center fielder Payton Hartbank (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon) had the Chargers’ lone extra-base hit (a double) and scored twice in three at-bats.

Key Moments
  • The Chargers took a 5-3 lead in the fourth on Hartbank’s run-scoring groundout and an RBI double from Cacey O’Brien (Moline, Ill./Moline), but the Kougars answered again with three runs in the bottom of the inning. A two-out error allowed the tying and go-ahead runs to score.
  • Sandburg had runners at the corners with one out in the seventh but was unable to push the tying run across.

O’Brien reached in all four of his plate appearances, going 3 for 3 with two doubles, a walk and two RBIs.
